Beware of GE Washing Machines
|
Model # WBB4500GOWW GE US www.ge.com My GE washing machine that is barely over a year old (delivered 1/23/07)has had the tub nut that holds the inner tub in place come loose twice in 2 weeks. I have had a repair guy out today and last Monday to tighten the same nut. He guesses that it may be a design flaw and that the washer might be spinning in the wrong direction. The last time it was knocking around so hard that it chipped away plastic from inside the tub and I had white chunks of plastic all over my clothes. I called GE and since it is past the one year warranty period all they will do is offer me a small discount off another GE washing machine. I'm not sure I want another one if it only lasts a year. BE forewarned - I wish I had been. Walked onto my newly laid laminate flooring...nuff said!!! Damage to basement resulting from a leaking 1 year old washer--tub seal, bearings, water getting into motor caused 8000.00 damage to my basement as many items were damaged---washroom vanity, freestanding IKEA cabinet, built in bookshelf, drywall, baseboards....it has been 2 weeks and we are still waiting for the repairman's report (Transglobal/The Brick) to submit to our home insurance. Transglobal debating on whether to repair or replace---the parts cost 600.00!!! And still waiting!!! Machine was installed in December of 2006. It started to leak April 2007. A independent local service tech(ge farmed out the contract under something called Service Power) finally came after several months(September 2007) of waiting for warranty work on a machine used 4 months total. He said it was leaking at the tub seal.He repeatedly laughed that I was one of those dumb consumers who purchase "cheap ge appliances" and expect them to work. When he never came back to install a tub seal, i called GE and explained the situation. The contracted repair did not even have a shop, just a service van and he never came back. Wouldn't even return my calls beacause it was a ge. Ge did send me a tub seal free of charge, right before the year warranty went out. My husband went to install the tub seal. But when he dismantled the machine he said the large NUT fell right off in his hand and it had worn grooves in the outer tub itself and you could visibly see 3 holes in the plastic($176.00 for this tub, plus shipping). When I contacted ge again I was referreed to ge Out of Warranty Relations, they said they would contact the same repair man againand he would have another chance to come out. Still waiting for a knock on my door. From the beginning I have offered to haul it to a authorized repair place but they just keep giving me a authorization number for the repair man that won't work on a ge. It's a year in April since the machine started to leak and I have been going 7 miles to a coin laundery since then.We are only a family of 2, but it still counts up. Any suggestions?Do I have any consumer rights? Refund? credit towards another purchase, prefer another brand.thanks, diane in nw mn From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Thursday, 27-Mar-08 17:32:46 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This |
