Dell Technical Support

I have owned a Dell Inspiron for three years and recently had a problem that required assistance from technical support. The first person I spoke with believed the problem was with the hard drive. I subsequently ordered a new hard drive and a memory upgrade for $170.

When I received the items the problem was not resolved. When I called technical support again I was told that I would have to send in the unit. The thing that upset me was that I would have had to pay $199 upfront for a BOX to send the computer to them. They told me I could not get the laptop repaired locally because Dell refuses to provide parts to other entities. I finally had the computer fixed (with the parts I had ordered) for $65.

My problem is paying $199 for a box!! I'll never buy another Dell product -- and many of my friends and family ask my opinion because I have done desktop support in the past.
