I recently went to the ARCO on M & Sierra Highway in Palmdale, CA. The pump stopped at $5 so the clerk at the register told me to come back in with my debit card that something happened. When I went in she swiped my card and charged me $100 in advance for my little tiny saturn. To top it all off they also charged me the $14 it plus a 45cent debit fee to fill the car. Now they have control of $100 of my money and said that it takes up to 3 days to credit it back to my account. This is ridiculous. When I questioned to clerk she had no clear answers..asked for a manager and she pushed the buck to corporate saying it is a new policy for them and that stores have no control over what they do. When you call the 1-800 number they push the buck back to the individual "franchise" owners saying it is their decision not corporate offices as they are individual owners. This is ludicrous. Meanwhile, I incurred overdraft protection fees as the money was pulled from my savings account to cover my $14 worth of gas. I only keep a small amount in the checking and most in savings as this is a secondary account that I have here. So far I have made several phone calls and have had the run around from all. I would suggest that unless you are paying cash, ARCO GAS CO who make millions off of us already, is now fleecing their customers in an untold variety of ways. The debit card fee is just another example. Do you know how much they make a year of of this practice? Millions!!!!
