Maytag Washers Suck
|
Maytag SAV 4655EWW Maytag US We purchased a basic Maytag washer in October of 2004 to replace our Whirpool, which we had for 14 years. In June of 2007, the transmission had gone out and the water seal had broken down, so it was throwing grease over our cloths. The transmission and seal was replace, but the labor was $120. A year later, the seal has failed again and the transmission needs replacing, again. This time they won't cover the seal kit, so the repair would be $200. I am not willing to throw another $200 at this machine. The repair guy said this model and other Maytags, have lots of transmission and seal kit problems. For my next washing machine, you can bet it won't be a Maytag. We really didn't want to get a control panel with a membrain touch pad, but we decided to go for it anyway. It comes with a 2 year parts and labor warrenty and we bought an extra two years for $55. Usually extended warrenties are a bad idea, but for an extra $55, we are covered for 4 years. Hell, our Maytag didn't even last that long. New new washer cost of $650. The 3.5 year old Maytag cost us $450 plus $120 for the first sealkit and transmission. Another $200 if we would have done the same repair this time. That would be $770. We should have bought the Fisher Paykel the first time... Read all the reviews on washing machines. EVERYONE is having problems, even on the high end machines, after 4 or 5 years. LONG GONE are the days when your washer lasted 15-20 years. Now I need to buy a dryer. The Fisher Paykel is way too expensive. I just need 4 settings and to spin. I don't need it to sense if I still have wet laundry. Why are dryers as expensive if not more than a washing machine. Cripes, what the &^%$ is going on out there?
