Chase Bank NA late fee + finance charges
|
BP Visa Chase Bank NA US I was on vacation for 2.5 weeks. The day I left, my credit card bill arrived. I paid it immediately when I arrived home but it was posted 4 days late. I have never been late before so I was shocked by the $39.00 late fee AND the $9.00 finance charges. I am willing to pay the finance charge but I think Chase should waive the late fee. But they refused, when I called them. Obviously I have to deal with a credit card company that makes it's money from sound lending practices rather than outrageous user fees. I've paid my bill on time; actually the balance in full for 3 years. I've never missed a payment. Don't bother calling, I was told by a Chase branch employee that they are instructed by policy to never credit fees. I had another problem where I showed them a screen print of their systems showing me the wrong payment amount due and even with their error they refused to credit a finance charge. But the branch took care of it. On the late fee, I hadn't used the account in two months due to the finance charge problem. I finally started using it again and hadn't got a statement. About 3 weeks later I logged on and saw the balance. They charged me $39 on a 150 balance. The account actually had not cycled, but they changed my due date to about 5 days before the cycle date. (WAMU had the cycle and due date the same day.) I went into the branch and had them call into care for me. When they put me on the line I spoke very loudly about how they treated their customers. I've had $40,000 in full payments over 3 years and they aren't willing to credit a late fee on a $100 balance. The branch manager called me the next day and said he could not take care of it either. I asked for the Regional Manager and let him know I would be coming into the branch to make calls to customer service from there. I also stated that my loud outburst was not directed toward his branch but at customer service. I was very polite to the branch people but very loud on the phone. He called me back. Credit had been applied. My personal feelings have caused me to pull $50K out of the branch. I'm trying Key Bank right now. I really used to enjoy banking with WAMU and loved their service.
