I purchased a gateway GM5684E desk top computer from HSN on July 5, 2008. I received it via UPS on July 17, 2008. When I first started up the computer for the first time the desktop background flickered like the monitor was having trouble making the background cleared up so I thought everything was ok. I noticed that the programs didn’t move as fast as the representative showed and expressed on HSN. Then I had trouble with the TV tuner connecting to my analog signal and I chatted with a technician to find out if I connected the equipment right and I was told that it was. The next day I called gateway tech support and was told that they didn’t have the information on the model monitor I had because it was new after being on the phone with the technician for over an hour I gave up trying to get the TV tuner to come in through the monitor on that issue that day.

Then I left the computer on and was clean the house and I notice the dvd drive opening and closing on its own with the screen server on and when I clicked the mouse, the monitor background screen was all jumbled together and shaking it took a few minutes to straighten out then I open internet explorer everything was so jumbled together and the screen was jumping so bad I had to turn the computer off. This was the second time this had happen but not this bad. Then when I logged back on to the computer I contacted customer support at gateway and I was told by Victor that I needed to do a full factory recovery and the problem would go away. Well I did the recovery last night and I still had the same problem.


I called gateway today and I was told that the monitor was defected and if I wanted to get I repaired I had to send it to them and I had to pay the shipping and handling. That was unacceptable to me because I have only had the computer one week and a day. I was told that my warrant was with HSN not with them so I called HSN and I was told that was not true and that Gateway is suppose to honor the warrantee. We called Gateway on the three-way and they gave us the run around and finally we were told that the only thing they could do for me was, return the system for a full refund and they would pay for shipping and handling.

I wasn’t looking for that to be my only option but I didn’t have a choice. They sent me a defected product and the only way I can have it fixed is to pay for the shipping and handling of the equipment and they did not honor there warrantee. I am so upset because I really wanted to keep this computer and I hoped that they would replace the product instead of leaving me with the only option of returning it for a full refund.
