Extended Warranty Cancellation

GMPP Coverage for 2005 Pontiac G6 Mike Finneron Pontiac Buick 250 North Island Highway Courtenay BC V9N 3P1 Courtenay, Br V9N 3P1 CA www.mikefinneronpontiac.gm.ca We purchased a 2005 Pontiac G6 from Mike Finneron Pontiac Buick in Courtenay in July 2005. At the time we also purchased an extended warranty for $2395.00 (GMPP)which was for 60 months or 100,000 km, whichever came first. We traded the G6 in on a Honda from the Honda dealership here in Courtenay on June 16th, 2008. The G6 only had 49,000 km on it and the extended warranty we had purchased still had 25 months or 51,000 km left on it. We contacted the 1-800-268-7676 number for GMPP program to cancel the warranty and they told me that once the paperwork had gone through and the G6 was paid off, the extended warranty left would be pro-rated for the time remaining on it and a cheque would automatically be sent out to us. I asked the person how much we would be getting back and was told it was just under $1,000. At the end of that week, I called the 1-800 number again to see if the paperwork had come through and they told me yes and the G6 was paid off. We had not heard anything about the payout after about 10 days so called the 1-800 number again. At that time I was told that the Extended warranty had not been cancelled yet and that the dealership we purchased the G6 from had to be the ones to cancel it. We contacted Finneron and was told that they could not cancel the warranty and that we were not entitled to get any money back. My husband went down and met with them and while he was there, they contacted the 1-800 number and spoke with a man called Arthur who said that we do not get anything back on the extended warranty. I then called the 1-800 back myself the next day and spoke with Arthur. He told me the same thing. No one could provide us with any documentation to show that we are not entitled to anything. So I then looked up the GM website and found their policy on Extended Warranty cancellations and insert the quote here: "After the initial 60-day period, you may request a termination of the GM Protection Plan at any time during the term for any reason, and receive a pro-rated portion of the Plan purchase price less an administrative fee, GST/HST and any applicable tax". And again under the "Administration Process" it states "What if I sell my vehicle before the GM Protection Plan expires? Your vehicle service contract can be transferred to the new owner upon sale of the vehicle due to the coverage that is still in effect on your vehicle, or the contract can be cancelled on a pro-rated basis (less $100 administration fee)" The website is: www.gm.ca and it is the Protection Plan that we purchased extra. It makes no sense to me why the Extended Warranty cannot be cancelled. We cannot do it because GM says the original dealership has to do it. The dealership won't do it because they said we are not entitled to it. We are left to speculate that they are not happy we went to a different dealership.
