Walmart.com deceptive advertising

Dear Complaints.com,

I attempted to place an order on Walmart.com for a sewing table costing =

$75.00, utilizing their advertised "free shipping site to store." The =

description on line reads:

Free Shipping With Site to Store

Site to Store is a service that offers free shipping of your online =

order to any Wal-Mart store. This gives you convenient in-store access =

to tens of thousands of items - many of which are not normally available =

in our stores.

Site to Store is now available at Wal-Mart stores nationwide. Use the =

Store Finder to locate the Wal-Mart nearest you.

Please Note: Site to Store is not available for stores in Alaska, Hawaii =

or outside the U.S.

I used the the Store Finder and confirmed that my local Walmart in =

Scarborough, Maine was on the list.

I proceeded to place the order but a $39.97 shipping charge kept adding =

into my total so I did not complete the order Instead, I emailed =

customer service asking how to get the option for free shipping site to =

store. Customer service emailed me a canned description of how to place =

an order on line. I wrote back that the response did not answer my =

question and asked again. A second personal response stated in part =

that,

At this time, the Sauder Sewing and Craft Table, Cottage Home Collection

is not eligible for the Site to Store service, which allows free

shipping to your local store. Eligible products are identified on our

website with the Site to Store logo. You may find additional Site to

Store information under the Special Offers section on our website. Once

you are under the Special Offers section, click on the Site to Store

link. This link will pull up the page containing our Site to Store

information, and should be able to provide you with help for concerns

regarding our Site to Store program. _______ I apologize for any

inconvenience you may have experienced.

Since I had already researched all I could on their site, I called my =

local store to see if they had one there. I was told the item had been =

"deleted." I think this means out of stock. I asked if maybe one of the =

several other area Walmart stores might have one. They didn't know but =

gave me an 800 number for "corporate "customer service. Despite trying =

many of the menu options, I was not able to connect to a live person to =

ask the question.

The item description on line indicated the item was available and my =

store is eligible to receive a site to store purchase.

I was truly deceived by Walmart's advertising to be able to purchase an =

item on line and pick it up at my local store to save shipping charges =

which exceeded 50% of the cost of the item! I had read rave reviews on =

line about the product and one even mentioned the ease of using the site =

to store free shipping. I am very dissappointed but want to caution =

other consumers to be very careful because this kind of advertising is =

not fair.
