Please post my complaint on your website HEARTLAND INSTITUTE19 South LaSalle StreetSuite 903Chicago, IL Email User Office of the Inspector GeneralIllinois Tollway2700 Ogden AvenueDowners Grove, Illinois 60= 515 Illinois Tollway2700 Ogden AveDowners Grove, IL 60515 Subject: Complaint submitted to =93Contact Us=94 at www.illinoistollway.com I paid online(Authorization Code #8837454) for a missed toll at I-294 Southbound at MP3= 9 Plaza 33 on 10/25/07. I was unable to change lanes to pay the toll due toconstruction barriers, night-time rush-hour traffic, unfamiliarity with the Illinois Tollway System, a disorienting departure routing from O'Hare (S to I-190 then NE to I-294 then S to I-294), signage for exit right to I-294placed over the far left lane on I-190, signage for I-88 mixed in with I-294 long before it was pertinent for navigation, sudden and unexpected appearance of confusing CASH toll-booth signage so close to the O'Hare Airport car rental, discourteous drivers, and a crazy/unmapped exit or construction = detour that took me off I-294 on to S 23rd St (or something like that) and left it up to me to find a way back to I-294!!! All this happened to me with the aid of a GPS unit in the car. I can only grimace at the thought of what might have happened without the GPS! With this many deficiencies, one ca= n only warn other travelers about the hazards of arriving at Chicago O'HareAirport and entering the Illinois Tollway system. I find it ODD where you place toll booths near O'Hare. Also, it is very ODD not be able to get OFF of your tollway system at reasonable intervals. I would advise the State ofWashington DOT not to recruit any traffic engineers who may have had a hand in this design. I got to wondering if some foreign government (like Indiaor Australia or Mexico) owns/operates the Illinois Tollway System in certa= in stretches? (That would explain a lot). Or, is it owned/operated by a bureaucracy steeped in mediocrity? Overall, the Illinois Tollway System left me with the only bad feeling I had on my trip back for a High School Class Reunion. But, I am glad you gave me a way to pay the missed toll and contac= t you without having to appear in some court to answer a citation. I am little confused though, I think your website states that I could have missed 3tolls and not have had to pay? Yet, it is also stated that you must pay wi= thin 7 days if you miss a toll to avoid a large fine. This is as confusing as your signs!
