overcharging for propane delivery

when someone calls them to have it delivered that day they're charged $75 on top of the bill for the propane & I think that's criminal & I won't use them anymore.I just think people need to be aware of that. And this is on a normal weekday, during normal business hours that people are being charged this.I can understand the $75 charge for after hours or on weekends but I called on a weekday, during normal business hours.

I have been very pleased with Hilco service for a number of years. On one occasion, I neglected to check my tank and it ran down almost to zero. Although Hilco did charge me the extra fee of $75, their price was lower than any other provider and they re-routed a truck from about 25 miles away to get the gas to me that same day. All propane users who aren't on a "keep full plan" should take some responsibility for checking their tanks and avoiding the need for an emergency delivery.

I agree with you completely. We switched propane companies for this reason along with a few others. The company we use now can deliver same day, especially if your out, dont charge the $80 for a leak test, and came out for our elderly neighbors who ran out on Christmas day last year. And told them Merry Christmas and did not charge extra! Amazing.

Any delivery business typically routes the field employees days or weeks in advance. Most often they attempt to route based on an individual area or region so as to cut operating costs. When you call in and you are off route (not just propane related) they will typically charge you an off route fee to include you in with the regualarly scheduled deliveries. Some companies won't do the next day thing at all. Heck even UPS charges a higher rate if you want something "next day".

why did you have to have your propane same day anyway??? did you not pay attention to your tank and let it run out? well in that case it is not the propane companies fault and you think a service man should have to work after hours to make your delivery with no compensation? they have a family they want to spend time with too.
