Someone from Charter Communications called me and told me that I would have to switch to Digital Cable. I was promised more cable channels and faster Internet service at no extra cost. I was promised that there would be no installation charges, no charges for black boxes, and no charge for any materials. I was quoted a price of $69.99. I agreed, but Charter technicians came at the wrong time and thus didn't do the work. When I called back, I spoke to Eunice. I spoke with her on Wednesday, January 16, 2008. I called at 7:15 P.M. Central Time. She promised me digital cable and high Speed Internet, with no installation or materials charges for $74.88 before taxes, $77.01 monthly after taxes. She said that my bill would read that price, with no other or hidden charges. I agreed. I also called Charter twice after that to confirm the price. However, my next monthly bill was for $188.28, almost triple what I was promised. I have agreed to pay $77.01 (which includes taxes) monthly, so I should not have to pay the $188.28. When I called Charter twice to speak about the bill, the customer service representatives refused to listen and said that I must have been misquoted. I was not misquoted; in fact, I asked Eunice to repeat the price three times, and I called later to confirm the price. I want to pay what I was promised but nothing more. Furthermore, I was promised more channels, but Charter has given me no extra channels. I was promised faster Internet service, but the service is no faster and even seems a bit slower. I was told that the $188 was a partial month's bill, but I already paid a partial month's bill last month, and "partial" means part of (or smaller); it doesn't mean triple. Charter wanted me to use their services and thus engaged in deceptive business practices, misrepresentation, and fraud, promising me a price and services that I did not receive. I want my bill adjusted from $188.28 to the promised $77.01. And because Charter tapes its calls, there should be no problem for Charter to recover the phone call in question in which I was promised that price of $77.01 after taxes; I have provided the name of the representative and the day and time above. If Charter does not honor its promise, I would like to cancel my service with them, and I will encourage my friends to do so as well. Thank you.
