In Aug 2007 I very happily joined Vonage phone service. They had what I needed at a good price and I got the first couple of months free. Once in a while the service would be fuzzy but I could deal with that. In May 2008 I decide to move back to the St.Louis area I called Vonage and they said there would be no problem canceling my service. They said I had already paid for the service until the 3rd of June, so not to worry. So on June 3rd, I called to cancel my service and they said I could not cancel without having to pay a cancellation fee that I was never informed of. They said I had to be a member until Aug 3rd of 2008 to avoid a cancellation fee. I did not like this but had to live with it. You see, I moved into a home where I was not able to use Vonage anymore, this is why I needed to cancel my service. Customer service was very mean and even had my crying at one point. Finally they said we will give you 2 months service free, this way I could call back after Aug 3rd to cancel my service. So I called them today and got the runaround. They told me that I was under a 2 year contract and that if I canceled I would be charged a fee. They said I could dispute the charge by mailing a letter to some place in New Jersey to plead my case. They said there was no way to wave the fee and that the previous employees told me the wrong information. With Vonage your monthly bill is taken out by them only and there is no paper bill. I did a little research online about complaints with Vonage and there are so many. People are having to close bank accounts and credit cards to avoid Vonage continually taking their fees out without permission. They also threatened me with a collection agency if I was delinquent on the payments. I am currently looking for any Class Action Suits that may be going on to get their attention and cancel my account and not take any fees from me. I have not used Vonage since May 08. I wanted to bring this issue to your attention and let you know that this big company is taking advantage of customers.
