Dating Service Match.com Dallas, Texas, US www.match.com Don't sign up for Match.com. They will bill your credit card statement without your knowledge. I signed up for what I thought was a one month subscription to Match.com and to have my credit card billed a one-time charge of $37.5. However, when I got my credit card statement statement for the second month, they had billed me a second time. I called them and apparently in the fine print where you click "I accept", you are agreeing to have the service renewed automatically and they will automatically bill your credit card, even though you are signing up for what you think is a one month subscripton. What a scam. It's a double edged sword... If you do go to the subscription page, you will probably notice things you missed... when you proceed through subscription this feature is mentioned in several places (besides the Terms of Use). On the page that allows you to select the package of your choice, there is a paragraph on the right side that talks about "Billing - Continuous Service." In addition, right above the check box affirming that you agree to the Terms of Use, there is the statement "When you click 'Subscribe', your credit card will be charged immediately. Unless you resign, your subscription will continue at the end of each successive period at the same rate and for the same amount of time. Learn more." Since many people ask about this feature, there is now a FAQ: http://match.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/src_domain/www.match.com/a_id/260/ This FAQ also links the FAQ explaining how to resign your account. If you are worried you did not resign correctly, you can: 1. Check to see that you got the resignation email that explains your paid through date. 2. Login, click "account" and then "account/subscription status" and it will say if you are subscribed or not. If you're resigned your paid through date will be indicated. If you're subscribed you'll get your renewal date. 3. If you're confused, call/email Care.... Match now has a lot more staff and is now 50% and growing in US based employees. A whole team has been created to detect fraud in corporate and a new escalated customer care staff is in corporate too. If you don't get a reply right away, you may have gotten an 'auto reply' (sent literally the second your email comes, and it says 'key word'... 'rapid response' etc.). Just reply to this and say "see below" and a real person Will email you back. I had the exact same experience in 10/2007 so I emailed them 3 times confirming my cancellation. Each time I got a vague response (but not a form letter - more a sorry our web didn't work for you). I kept the emails and last month they billed me for the year. Lots more vague emails (I sent them my prior exchange), finally one where they told me to call, I called and they told me my account was blocked because I disputed it and i had to email the poeple that told me to call in the first place!! I finally asked Amex to deny the charge and they did. The next day I get an email from match.com telling me again that my account is blocked, to call the 800 number and to send them a check to renew.
