PageFree Publishing and Kim and Gary Blagg

I would strongly discourage anyone from working with PageFree Publishing, which is owned by Kim and Gary Blagg.

As you can see from the other complaints, and the fact that over 20 of us have joined together to take action, there are numerous dissatisfied customers.

I published a book with PageFree in February, 2007. Over a year passed and I was not sent any royalties. I was given many excuses as to why no payment had been sent (e.g. the check was sent, it must have gotten lost; we'll reissue the check; you didn't sell enough books to be paid, etc.) I continued to write letters to the Blaggs requesting payment and explaining I had definitely sold enough books to be paid and payment was due.

I received a letter stating, "As is our prerogative according to the agreed upon Publishing Agreement, we are choosing not to renew the distribution of your book." They said I could purchase my print-ready files back from them at twice the original set-up fee ($798). Prior to this, I had never read anything in their contract or website, or been told in conversation, there was a fee to get my print-ready files back. (PageFree designed the book with my input; I did not provide them with print-ready files.) I tried to negotiate this, and they withdrew the offer.

I was eventually paid a portion of my royalties. I have since had to start from scratch and fork out more money to hire someone to redesign the book interior and cover, (since PageFree technically owns the design they created) and publish the book myself. Meanwhile, although they canceled my contract, PageFree continued to sell my book on Amazon and collect payment.

What I had intended to be a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship has been extremely disappointing and stressful. I strongly discourage anyone considering working with PageFree.
