Bad Buisness Practices

NET ZERO ONLINE SERVICES NET ZERO: affliate of UNITED ONLINE US http://www.netzero.net On August 6th I noticed a charge on my credit card account. The charge was for online services through NetZero. I contacted my bank and was informed to contact NetZero. When I phoned netzero I was informed there had been an account created under my information for internet service at an address that did not match my credit card billing address. When I spoke with the manager in the cancellation department, Taylor, I was directed to another department for a refund. Continuing to speak to this manager I found out the person who used my card information ended up being my underage brother. (I will definitely being dealing with him!!!) I then immediately questioned their buisness policy on allowing and verifying authorization when an underage child uses a credit card (whose address does not match the address where service is being provided) was. The manager immediately stated she was not aware of the policies and directed me to Customer Care. I was then transferred to customer care and provided with this from the customer service rep, Sam, "We do not have a policy", "the only verification we use is that the billing address on the credit card matches what was inputed." I can only imagine how many people are going through this same issue, not only with this company but with other companies with no policies. The company put the blame on my bank, myself (for giving my brother oppurtunity to get my information), and everyone else. I have never had an issue with my bank and was the reason I caught the mistake, my brother who is underage and irresponsible will be punished for his actions but my worry is that this company will be relieved of any causation to the problem. Should companies be allowed to practice without having any set policies? I sure believe some impute should be towards the company. I then asked the customer service Rep the following: "if I live in Ohio and someone in another state or country obtained my information would you question at all the fact that service is being provided in one location and the billing in another? His answer: "as long as the billing address on the credit card matches we would not question it". **So my advice consumers..stop allowing these type of buisness practices occur!!!** If consumers were to start questioning the practice of some buisnesses then maybe they will start putting policies in place that prevent these types of issues!!! IT IS TIME TO STAND UP TO BUISNESSES WHO DO NOT CARE ABOUT CONSUMERS ONLY DOLLAR SIGNS!!!!!!!
