Orbitz Access America Insurance Scam

Travel Service Orbitz Worldwide 500 W Madison St Ste. 1000 Chicago, IL 60661-2559 US www.orbitz.com I recently used Orbitz to book 2 essentially identical trips from my home in Colorado to Vancouver, CAN. On the first occasion I then promptly received an email from some insurance company called AccessAmerica informing me of the details of my new insurance coverage WHICH I DID NOT RECALL ORDERING! So I called AccessAmerica and canceled the coverage. The second time this same thing occurred I realized that for certain that I had not selected insurance coverage, but I received it again regardless. Upon calling customer service and asking to speak with a supervisor, I was told that the Orbitz website selects the insurance coverage for me and that Orbitz's position is that it is my responsibility to unselect the insurance option. Needless to say I will never again use Orbitz as my travel services provider due to this fraudulent and misleading marketing tactic. They are the worst of the worst travel companies. DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON THE TRAVEL PROTECTION INSURANCE OFFERED ON THE ORBITZ SITE! Access America and their bed partner, Orbiz is a total scam. I bought this insurance for $46 at the time I bought tickets to a workshop event for my collodion partner, Ted Roberts and I. I booked through the internet ORBIZ site, and then I purchased the ticket insurance with Access America that Orbiz sells. After this, my mother was hospitalized and is now in a 24/7 assisted living home in St. George, Utah. I was told to stay near to help her if an emergency occurred - so naturally I filed a claim. You would have thought that they would have just accepted the $900 claim, but no they want an extended justification with copies of the hospital records, including all medical reports by several doctor, statements that have to be notarized by the medical staff at the assisted living home describing in detail her medical issue, etc. This is a total invasion of her privacy. These conditions were not stated on the Orbiz's point of sale travel insurance selection. I did get a multiple page disclaimer weeks later in small type from Access America. Here is where the cash in dollars is black on their bottom line, then turns grey when a claim is filed. BTW. Teds ticket was NOT transferable, thus I forfeited it. $400+. Can you imagine if you were sick and couldn't go to the event? it would be impossible to get your money returned. 4 months later and no resolution. This included an attorney representing me. So anyway, it is evident that even with a legitimate claim, Access America tries to bury claims in administration. So unless I file a class action suit. I lose it all. BTW. If I was able to provide the information needed (and have tried and could not gather it all) - The total refund of my two, United Airline tickets to ROC from Orbiz, they say would be $276. Now they collected all these fees for airline tickets and travel insurance and do nothing in return for the $900 paid. A scam stay away from ORBIZ!. I bought tickets to a professional tennis event for my wife and I, through Ticketmaster, and I purchase the ticket insurance, Access America. My wife's mother died the day of the event, so naturally I filed a claim. You would have thought that they would have just accepted the $100 claim, but no they want an extended justification with copies of the death certificate, ticket invoices, copies of unused tickets, etc... If you need a ticket at the lowest possible price you should wait till there is a fare sale and then buy the ticket at the loest possible price do not be suckered into any offer by orbitz From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Sunday, 16-Nov-08 22:02:33 CST Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This |
