Honda Lawn Mower Transmission

Honda lawn Mower HRZ 216 US 3 years ago I decided to invest in a real good lawn mower so I wouldnt have to keep on buying lawn mowers every 4 years. I bought a Honda lawn mower ($689). I couls have bought 3 cheepies but I decided to quit doing that and buy a good one. 3 years later the mover does not propel itself anymore, I rush to the Honda shop to findout that my warranty has expired last year. The mower needs a new Transmission. They will not help with a complaint to the company. My cost to fix was going to be: $155 for the Trans, $55 per hour to replace, estimated time to replace 3 to 4 hours. What a deal.....No one (Honda, Dealer, Repair shop)will listen to my complaint nor they are willing to do anything. Do yourself a favor DONT BUY HONDA LAWN MOWERS From: Message Author (click here to email author) (has asked not to receive email)Date: Thursday, 28-Aug-08 13:15:38 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisAdd me to the list of VERY dissapointed Honda mower owners. I had lawn service for 8 years and decided to get some exercise by cutting my own lawn. A self propelled made sense for 10,000 sq ft and hilly and I wanted soemthing reliable. The Honda was expensive, but I thought I was buying value. Less than 3 years and I'm getting more exercise than I ever thought I would thanks to Honda. I may take a picture of the other 5 Honda's at the mower shop I took mine to for repair and post it on the internet. An HHR 21 purchased from a dealer. So far this junk pile has had in 3 years 7 months a new grass bag, carburetor, transmission, left rear wheel and gear set and the lower axle. Just got it back today, cut my lawn and the tranny went again. I owned an HR21 that lasted me about 20 years and I still would have it today if I could get parts for it. I have a 5000 sq ft lawn and I have put more miles on my truck getting it to a dealer than I have using this machine. Out of warranty by a couple years and the tranny is bad. Over $200 just to order plus freight and tax. I sold my neighbor on it... perhaps we'll move before his goes out too. I've had a SNAPPER since I was in 6th grade. My advice is buyer beware! The model # is HRX217TDA. The cost to replace the transmission is $275. I live in Minnesota so my mower gets used 5 months out of the year and I have about 6000 sq ft to mow. Definitely not over-used. I own a civic, honda generator and honda outboard. I paid about $600 for the mower expecting a lot more life than this. I called Honda to file a complaint and was told chances to get any assistance are slim to none. I will not buy a honda mower again. Here's the number I called for Honda customer service 800-222-7693 and choose zero right away to get a live body. Spread the word about the poor quality of their lawn mowers. I had mine a little over 1 year, tranny went bad. Home Depot replaced mower with a new one. 2 yrs later tranny went bad on that one. $110 later, I replaced it myself. All is good until this year ( that is only one and a half mowing seasons) and now that tranny is going bad. Guy at Honda lawnmower dealership said "yeah, those are junk, they have throw-away tranny's in them. Go figure. Took it to the shop and the transmission is shot. the guy quoted me $218.00 to replace and said honda does not stock any internal replacement parts, you just buy the whole transmission. It's not what i expected from Honda. I own a Honda pilot, Honda rototiller and Honda snowblower and soon a snapper mower.
