Maytag horror stories

washer, neptune Maytag Benton Harbor, Michigan US This is turning out to be an interesting survey of Maytag appliances. 11 respondents found this article very informative. 7 respondents related either their Maytag experience or that of a friend. Following are some of the Maytag horror stories. Uncle Teddy, I also had a terrible experience with Maytag years ago. I had purchased their top of the line Neptune series front loading w/d set. My washer was also a lemon. After several repair attempts I became part of a major class action law suit against Maytag. It settled a few years later! My cut from the deal was a voucher for their lowest line top loading washer! NO THANK YOU. (I'm sure the lawyers representing our suit did much better!) I wouldn't wish a Maytag on anybody! Hope this helps - Eileen should donate her washer for a reef project offshore somewhere!!! Love, Maureen -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ( A slightly disgruntled Maytag customer) FIVE MONTHS in to owning this new maytag legacy machine, the "bored" Maytag Repairman had to REPLACE THE MOTOR! Within the very FIRST YEAR I owned this machine, I've had repairmen to my home 4 times. I wanted the machine REPLACED, but Maytag wanted to REPAIR it instead. By the time this was all over, the insides of this NEW machine was virtually REPLACED. My machine is NOT YET 3 YEARS OLD and it LEAKS like crazy and sounds like a mothership coming in for a landing. I wrote a very nasty letter to Maytag via their website, but they offered NO ASSISTANCE. During the time the repairmen were virtually becoming "family," Maytag did extend my warranty (they said for 2 years, however, it was only for ONE year). I did not, and REFUSE, to put any more money into this piece of literal GARBAGE. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A repairmans story taken from fixitnow.com These days, seems everyone wants a moral to the story. Well, I dont want to dissapoint you so this story has one, too. When working on these Neptunes, understand that the engineers were smokin crack when they designed the electronics on this thing. Anything that goes wrong on the Neptune, from a door switch to a water valve, fries the machine control board, sometimes in peculiar and unexpected ways. Watch for it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ted, My Maytag appliance is a Dishwasher, model WV 284, Series 01 and when we bought it, it was on display in a see through plastic case so you could see what a good job it was doing. When moving water around, it was very impressive. It never washed dishes and pots worth a damn. We had spaghetti over the weekend and after it washed the dishes and pots, the spaghetti sauce remained. I had to do them by hand in the kitchen sink. It simply does not do what it is supposed to do. I'm sure you are not going to get anywhere with Maytag, you are just going to blow off some steam, but maybe you will feel better. Eileen, getting feedback from one of her employees: I purchased a Neptune and included an extended warranty. I have had nothing but problems with it from the beginning. Although repairmen keep returning to repair the darn thing, it is a terrible inconvenience. After the warranty is finished and the next occurrence of an inevitable breakdown, this junk will be consigned to the scrap heap. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original article to Maytag A few years ago my daughter purchased a new home. Since I grew up with the Maytag brand as being the top manufacturer, I instructed the contractor to install a top of the line Maytag washer and dryer. Much to our eventual grief, the washer was a Neptune MAH5500BWQ. My daughter is single and the washer occasionally handles only light loads. (probably why it lasted this long) When the washer failed recently, we called a Maytag repairman. For $115 we find out that this Neptune is a dog. ( When one module malfunctions, it destroys the motherboard) Maytag was aware of the neptune problem, but we were never notified. The serviceman said that repairs on this machine would cost nearly $700 dollars more. Naturally, we will be purchasing a new washer. My question to Maytag is: Does Maytag feel any obligation for selling us a lemon. (please don't tell me we should have responded sooner. We only became aware of it last week) I will be waiting for your reply prior to publishing this message on my e-mail listing. Following is Maytags reply.
