Wells Fargo disapearing transactions

Looking for more people who are having this same problem. I booked a wedding chapel for me and my fiance's wedding using my wells fargo check card. Ok. I checked the balance a few minutes later, and it was on my account, taken out and all, for like 3 days. Then today I checked my balance, and the transaction is no where on the site. It'm willing to bet it would be on here in a day or two, whole point is they are hiding transactions to confuse consumers, therefore racking up unfair overdraft charges, (lol) in the order, largest to smallest. Nothing about the time or date of transactions. Just trying to find out if there is more people with the same problem, how many there are, and what we can do about it...class action lawsuit anyone?

When a company, like this chapel, runs a debit card the transaction is memo posted (you will see 'Pending' online) on the account. This is so that the funds are 'held' and cannot be used for another purchase, since debit card transactions are guaranteed to be paid.

After this happens the bank still requires proof from the merchant of the purchase before funds are actually released; when the transaction gets hard posted. The bank will hold funds for pending transaction for 3 business days which typically allows the merchant plenty of time to batch out their receipts and submit for final payment. But if they don't, the bank will release the hold of the funds and the transaction will no long appear on the account.

However, since you still did authorize the original purchase, the bank will pay the total once the merchant eventually submits proof of sale.

People will typically overdraw when this happens if they don't keep a register. That's because they simply look at their balance, assume it's how much they have left, and spend at their leisure. If you keep a register, you will know what transactions you truly have outstanding preventing you from overdrawing.

The bank cannot keep funds on hold forever. Think about when you give your card to a merchant, they run it once and it doesn't work... so they swipe it again. Then you see your account has been double posted! But, one of the transactions is only 'pending' and eventually falls off after a few days or so. Same policy. It's not the bank's fault, it's just a timing issue with the merchant. It's also something you will encouter with any bank. If there are fees, you spent more money than you had in your account and it's not a bank error.

After working in a bank for 6 years, the best way to avoid fees is to use a register!
