Credit Protection Association

Comcast Cable Dallas, TX US www.creditprotect.com Credit Protection Association has been sending me collections notices for an overdue balance on a Comcast bill at my address from before I lived at that address. They provide no way for consumers to contact them to report the issue, only numbers to pay the reported amount... Once I finally found a way to contact them, I faxed them a copy of my lease clearly showing I did not live at the address during the billing period in question and did not have an account, but they continue telling me that they did not receive my fax. I have done this three times, all with successful faxes, and they still contend that it's a "valid collections effort". They are clearly trying to simply get me to pay them an amount that I do not owe just to avoid having them make a report to the credit reporting agencies. Any way you look at it, this is extortion. Last October, after many years of cable TV service, I closed my Comcast account and paid the amount due in full. This January, somehow, another person's service address in Denver was attached to my account. CPA began sending me collection notices about an overdue amount of $380.90 which I do not owe. My credit reports & rating are also damaged. I contested this with all three credit reporting agencies. I have followed CPA's dispute process to the letter. I have filed a police report. I have worked with and faxed Comcast Collections the police report as they requested. They said the problem would be cleared up "in a few days". All this, and I have received NOTHING back to even confirm any progress at all. Yesterday, I received yet another collections notice over 90 days past due. What is a consumer like me to do in an age like this? The little guy is treated so horribly, and it seems that no one even cares!
