Today was my first time in this store, right when we walked in the store it smelt of animal urine, the Chinchillas were overcrowded into one cage. Also one of the chinchillas may not have been alive. I could not tell. It did not appear to be moving, and looked like it was dead or in a "deep sleep". It did not appear the cage was cleaned, the urine smell was strong. They had more animals than they can handle. They had animals pilled up in small plastic containers. The rodents next to the chinchillas were also overcrowded in their cage. They are selling more animals than pet care products! This is a very sick and sad situation. This is cruel, overcrowding of animals and the store smelling of urine is just wrong. They dont have enough pet products to match all the animals they are selling!

Any pet shop that has rodents is going to have the rodent bedding smell. To me, that is a different smell than urine. They happen to be a smaller shop, yes, but whenever I go in there (which is at least twice a week for fish/coral) they are mopping and cleaning out tanks and cages. These people know what they're doing.

As far as fish go, they have a lot fewer duds than most fish stores. The fish that you see that aren't doing well are 9 times out of 10 dying because of shipping stress. If it had something to do with their housekeeping all of the fish and coral would suffer.

What I like most about these people (and why I don't mind paying a little bit more money) is that they truly love the animals they keep. They are always handling the animals and are EXTREMELY knowledgeable about their care as well. I would have lost hundreds of dollars if they weren't there for me--they've even come to my house to help me with my tanks!!

I don't know who is writing this or why.

I shop at valencia pet weekly. I see several staff members cleaning the cages and taking the animals out.

Over the last 2 years that I have been shopping there, the service is good and the animals are clean compared to petco. I've seen many stores and this one is a 7 out of 10. yes they do not have a large selection as petco or petsmart but it is ok. you can buy the animal here and the extra stuff somewhere else. The only dead animal I once saw was a dead anole in a tank. This happens all the time in the pet trade.I see more dead and neglected aanimals at the bigger stores. If you ever go to a petstore and the conditions are so terrible, notify the owner and make them aware ofit, if they refuse to do something call animal control. don't post thing on the internet if you don't know what you're talking about. The prices on some animals are a little higher than elsewhere, but the animals are better. I don't know about their fish because I don't look at that.

Overall a good store, so don't base your judgement on the above complaint.
