Sallie Mae / Student Loans Customer Service Sallie Mae / Student Loans Customer Service I became disabled in July 2005. This year, I finally got disability and = received a good amount of backpay. I owed my landlord for back rent, = which was the agreement we made, she would let me live there, as long as = I paid her back when I got my disability. I paid her through my banks electronic payment system, bill pay, but I = accidentally sent it to Sallie Mae instead. I owed them about $1,300, = which was on a loan that had been deferred because of my hardship = status. I sent them $4,000, which was the amount that I was supposed to = send my landlady. A few days before I sent it, I had requested a = disability exemption from them, which means that they cancel the loan as = long as I never work again, which, unfortunately, is going to be the = case. My bank said that if money was owed, there was no way they could = get the money back that I'd sent = electronically....GRRRRRRRRRRrrrrllllllll. When I contacted Sallie Mae, everything was = fiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeee. Yes, they would send the full amount back = as long as I wrote a letter explaining the details. I immediately wrote = the letter saying that I'd transferred money to the wrong account, etc., = I called them weekly asking what was going on. I was told several = times that the whole amount would be credited back to my bank account. = Well, low and behold, about a month went by and they had taken out the = amount that I owed them. When I called back, I talked to yet another = supervisor who told me that I would soon be getting a letter explaining = the reason why they took the money. The "letter" came a few days later = and it basically said, thanks for paying off your student loan we = appreciate your business . UGH!!! @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Anger makes you smaller, while forgiveness forces you to grow beyond = what you were. ~~ Cherie Carter-Scott, From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Tuesday, 04-Sep-07 23:06:23 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisI have bipolar disorder, borderline disorder, and few others... I attended a culinary that was accredited in ' 98 ...I was completely forthcoming about my mental issues though I did not have to concede to disability unitl 2004...The school I attended, although accredited and supposedly filed my Pell grant, was closed less than four months later...I have a degree, technically...the instructors were superb and I found the curriculum extremely satisfactory...however, on resume, etc. there is no proof I even attended the school, let alone earned an honest degree...accredited means FEDERALLY supported ...if it's good enough for a bank..why not college! I have no problem trying to pay some that I can( i have had my social security garnished...I have received no benefits since October of 2008 due to this loan...again no degree to technically speak of) and my benfits only began in 2005...I WANT to work but I am told that Sallie Mae will take all but $150 of whatever I make while still garnishing my social security...Also...it is nit just I ..many people I have spoken to from my former academy have had similiar problems, especially when it comes to summation of payment..i.e. are payments due don't match our statements...because the school was SUED by the state of FL at the time we never had, nor still have to this date , actual records of the contracts signed for both Sallie Mae loans, applications, attendance, verification of enrollment....blah, blah...if anyone out there is like me i say let's take Sallie Mae on...if they can save the car companies why can't they back hardworking students who were screwed by the system...class action anyone?! p.s. the school was 5 years later after MUCH deliberation reliquished of all liability...surprise surprise From: Message Author (click here to email author) Date: Friday, 17-Sep-10 14:08:15 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisHi there. Sallie Mae has been harassing me for about a year and luckily I had the sense to look them up. They are complete and utter idiots and I am not financing their bad debt through a writeoff of my debt. I hate them. If you have problems with the calling you just send them a cease and desist letter. Google it and plenty will come up. That way you don't even have to be subjected to their sleaziness. Alice Sorry but foregiveness is not appropriate right now - maybe later but not now. Scott: You did not get your $$ back from SALLIE MAE, becasue they are as honest as a LOAN SHARK.......they took payments from me in 1985, never credited the payments. I stopped paying until they found the payments and then lost my job, they told me once I started paying agin ($2,000.00) owed that they would remove the 1985!! loan from my credit reports (3) well guess what?!?!?!? They Lied!!!! Transunion, just changed the dates and the type of loan, they chenged it from DEFAULT to DEFERRMENT...as of 2006....I never agreed to this.. SALLIE MAE says my loan is so old they could not even find it...............but they sure found it when it came to taking the $2,000.00 ....
