Wachovia Bank and post dated checks

My complaint is about Wachovia Bank. Just this week I sent out a power bill with a check in it dated for Sept. 29, 2007. I sent it out with the belief that it would be safe untill the 29th when the money to cover it would be in the bank. I thought that since the date written on it was the 29th that it could not be cashed before then. I was wrong or at least that is what my bank told me when I called them about a $105 fee I had received on my account because they processed the check ahead of a few debit transactions. When I called and asked them how it was that the check was cashed before the date written on it....they told me that they had to cash what they were presented with, and the fact that it was cashed post dated, I would have to talk to the company I had given it to, because that would have been an agreement with the company. So I called the company and they're responce was that they do not accept post dated checks and whatever checks they receive are processed

then. And furthermore, the checks are read by a machine and the date is not even looked at. And the only thing I could have done was called them and told them that I was having problems and the check would be mailed on the due date. I thought all of this to be very upsetting and frustrating, since it was my understanding that when a check is cashed it is inspected for the amount, the account number, a signature, and the date; and that a check could not be cashed prior to the date written on it. So now I am going to be changing banks, and i'm going to find a bank that actually believes in checking dates on checks, because otherwise, why do we even have to put a date on the check. I mean if the bank isn't even going to look at it anyways, then why bother.
