National City Bank - Holds Charges until they can make a profit

National City Bank holds charges of mine for a few weeks before putting them through my checking account, therefore causing an overdraft charge of $32.00. These charges are small (coffee, magazines, etc.) and they have happened weeks and weeks before they show up on my account - just when a $2.50 charge would take me over my limit. I have had numerous situations where I haven't used my card for 2 weeks and when I look at my on-line account, I am all of a sudden in the negative. The charges that put me over are charges that can't be from any time sooner than 2 weeks prior. I don't know the last time that a Starbucks charge actually took 2 weeks to clear. This is especially true considering some of the Starbucks charges go through the same day.

It is frustrating that this only happens when you don't have more than $200 in your account. Otherwise, charges go through in one or two days. It is quite obvious what they are doing.

As a former employee of NCB (as well as other banks), I know that this is NOT how banks work. This is National City's way of charging their clients in a shady and manipulative way. National City Bank needs to be purchased by a larger, more respectable bank that doesn't have to scam their customers in order to stay afloat. I say that if Bank of America offers a price for this SMALL regional bank (and I stress small regardless of what the bigwigs at NCB think of themselves) National City would do well to accept. The customers (and employees) would be treated with respect unknown up to this point.

I'm kind of having the same problem. Everything that is on the online banking statement, I have in my transaction register booklet. The online banking is saying that I'm overdrawn but in my records I still have money left. This is the second time this month that it has happened and I write every purchase down like it's religion. I just don't understand and I don't have $200 to keep giving to them every week. Please someone email me on what I should do. Please please please please. I have a 2 year old son that I'm trying to raise and I don't make a whole bunch of money. If someone has been in the same situation as I'm in please email me at Skybluu86 AT gmail.com. Thank you so much.

I am so glad I ran into this post. I had never even heard of a continuous charge until recently when it happened to me. I accepted it as my fate for messing up but I couldn't figure out how I had a pending transaction of $9 when I hadn't used my card in two weeks. Those fees nearly crushed me! I am definitely switching banks!!!

Not only has that exact thing happened to me once, but a $300 transfer I made from my savings to my checking, showed it transfered, and then was back into the savings 2 days later. This resulted in almost $400 in overdraft charges, all from small purchases. I am one hundred percent sure that the transfer was displayed as going through. Never rely on National City's online banking, it is designed to intentionally rob you. If only I had printed everything out.

I am having the exact same issue right now, we've launched a fraud investigation on my acct at the bank, but they refuse to refund any of the overdraft, NSF or 8 dollar continuous overdraft fees. I need to know if there is an authority I can talk with. I have a law firm involved already, and they have been helping slightly, but the management at my branch location dont listen to anything you ask them to do and they sit on stuff until it gets totally out of hand.

They did the same thing to me. They held a charge for over a week. due to my complaints they decided to close the accounts and send me out a cashiers check and then two days after that the 6.49 charge shows on the account then you guessed it a 36.00 overdraft fee. THEY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN OR A CLASS ACTION SUIT BROUGHT
