Omni American Bank

Omni American Bank

My son and I both do business with Omni American bank. Recently my son =

made

a charge with his Visa checking card and the charge was rejected due to

insufficient funds. The merchant apparently scanned the card 2 more =

times

attempting to complete the transaction. When my son received his bank

statement he had 3 insufficient fund charges. When my son called the =

bank

and explained that it was for exact same thing and the merchant just =

tried 2

more times when the transaction didn=92t go through the first time, Omni =

said

that didn=92t matter, he was being charged for each attempted overdraft

transaction.

The same type thing happened to me several months earlier but I had a

different result. I took my car to get a state inspection and used my =

Visa

to pay the $39 inspection fee. When I got home after the inspection my =

wife

asked me to take her car and get it inspected. I went to the same =

garage to

get her car inspected and when I tried to pay with my Visa card the =

charge

was rejected. He tired several more times and each time it was =

rejected.

He finally called a shop manager and said he was having a problem with =

my

Visa card. He explained that I been there earlier and used my Visa =

card

and didn=92t have a problem and could understand why there was a problem =

now.

The manager explained that reason for the rejection was probably because =

it

appeared to be a duplicate charge. If the exact same transaction from =

the

same business occurs within a specified time period the 2nd charge was

rejected because it appeared to be a duplicate charge. It was =

supposedly

for my protection. We resolved the problem by him charging me $40 and =

then

giving me a dollar change.

After all this, it appears to me that this is Omni=92s overdraft policy =

is:

If the charge appears to be a duplicate charge and Omni has to give up

money, then reject the charge and tout =93We were only trying to protect =

you

from duplicate charges=94.

If the apparent duplicate charge results in an overdraft, charge the

customer an over draft fee for each transaction regardless of how many =

times

the same duplicate charge was attempted.

They have it both ways.

I think there are probably several Omni banks. This is the one I=92m =

talking

about. HYPERLINK =
