Lowes Washer/Dryer installer does poor job and complains

I ordered a washer and dryer with installation from lowes. It turned out that my salesman had ordered the wrong type of cord because he didn't ask me which type of outlet I had. When the installers showed up they had already installed the wrong cord and said I was simply out of luck, that they don't have the right cord so I would have to call Lowes to get the right one installed. I told them that I wanted them to uninstall the wrong cord so I could exchange it for the right one, but several times the installer refused, saying that the next installer would do that. Eventually after my protestations the wrong cord was uninstalled. Since I had clothes to wash and couldn't wait 10 days for another installer to come out, I resolved the issue by exchanging cords in Lowes and installing the new cord myself.

The more serious issue is that they didn't install the dryer heat duct correctly. They had just taped it on with duct tape, and during the first load of clothes I dried, it fell off completely so that the duct was no longer connected. I solved this problem by making another trip back to lowes and buying the metal clips for a proper installation, and reinstalling the duct right myself.

Yet another problem was the Lowes salesperson told me I would qualify for two different energy star rebates totalling more than $100. It turned out the particular energy star model I bought didn't qualify. And it also turns out that the two rebates were really the same rebate and I would have only qualified for one in any case.

What Lowes should take away from this incident is that they need to train their salespeople to figure out which cord you need and get you the right cord. And the delivery should keep one of each of the half dozen cord types on hand in case a miscommunication happens.

Lowes should require that ducts be installed with metal clips (about $1 retail) rather than cutting corners by installing with duct tape.

And the salesperson should not falsely promise rebates that aren't available.
