Sony Grand Vega LCD Projection TV melting from bulb heat
|
KF-50WE610 Sony USA US sony.com My $3,000 Grand Vega 50" LCD projection TV is melting in front of my eyes from excessive heat generated by the bulb which has melted the areas around it and emits a "burning plastic" smell. After my local authorized servicer sent digital photos of the obvious melted plastic all around the bulb, SONY technical reps insist it is not a safety issue or a product defect. WHAT???? FYI: tv is 36 mo's. old and yes, the fans are running and are not dirty or clogged. Apparently as a consumer I should reasonably expect a $3,000 investment to be a disposable one which regularly needs to be replaced in 36 months! Nice consumer relations Sony! Buyers of HDTV's beware....SONY is NOT a well designed or well backed product. Spent $2500 and $400 for an extended warranty for 4 years. My TV screen is turning yellow and blue. I don't know how Sony gets away with this robbery. I have TV's that cost $200-300 that still work fine after 15 and 20 years. Talked to Sony and they are not willing to fix my TV. They ripped me off once. I will never buy Sony products again. After many wonderful hours the bulb started getting dimmer by the day. Now, after $180 to replace the bulb I noticed the mirrors just behind the bulb looked foggy. Now I know they are melting - UGH ! From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Wednesday, 10-Dec-08 14:54:37 CST Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisLong story short, I have an extended service plan from hh gregg. After two weeks of getting the runaround, hh gregg directed me to Sony for product exchange. Sony offered me $488 for my 60" kf60we610, whose housing has melted and is deemed not fixable. My extended service plan itself cost $499. I would like to know about any legal action I can take or any mechanism of Sony that will make this right. We got a new TV. We did have to pay a couple hundred which I am still not happy about. I have sent a letter with pictures to a lawyer. I am keeping an eye on the sony lawsuit. feel free to email me if you want to get a group started. If the current plantifs are awarded, they will get any money back they paid out. I'll try to post more soon here. top_seller5 at yahoo From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Saturday, 29-Mar-08 00:58:15 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisWe have a sony with the same problem,,,any luck out there...please email me at kyjeho AT yahoo.com From: Message Author (click here to email author) (has asked not to receive email)Date: Wednesday, 26-Mar-08 06:48:09 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisI had the Optical Engine go bad. Sony is currently covering the cost to replace that. When the technician arrived to fix that, he found the lamp was melted to the lamp housing. The service company then called me to tell me it would be $360 in parts to fix. Problem is, the lamp is only a couple of months old. I have contacted Sony, and they need engineering to look over the documentation. I refuse to pay for it because I believe the problem with lamp is related to the optical engine going bad, or Sony has a design flaw. It appears from searching the internet that Sony's LCD rear panel projection televisions are seriously flawed. ACCORDING TO THE TECH THAT CAME OUT, THE TV HAS A SHUTOFF SWITCH FOR EXCESSIVE HEATING BUT THE TV NEVER SHUT OFF. It has melted and they are sending out a technician to inspect. Hopefully they will tell Sony it is a safety issue but now reading your post I don't think they will. Maybe Sony will do the right thing. From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Sunday, 28-Oct-07 19:19:49 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This |
