Shady Contract Renewal
|
Verizon Verizon Wireless Merrrillville, IN 46410 US I signed a two year contract with Verizon that I wanted to cancel about 2and1/2 years later. I never changed my original phone or made any changes to my contract so I didn't expect any problems when I went to cancel. When I tried to cancel my service I was informed that I would be charged 198.00 per phone line (there were 2)for an early cancellation fees. I tried to exlpain to the service rep that my contract had long since expired and she must be mistaken. She then informed me that my contract was renewed a month prior by the person with the second line (my child). What happened is as follows. My daughter saved for 2 months to purchase a Razor phone. she went to the Verizon store and paid full price for it, somewhere around 240$. At that time she had her stored numbers transfered to her new phone and signed what she thought was the receipt and left without another thought. Well it turns out that one of the papers that the clerk slipped her was a contract renewal. She had no idea and since she was paying full price for the phone, she never thought that anything shady would be going on. As far as she was concerned she was only there shopping for a phone. I did then tell a Verizon service rep in no uncertain words that I thought them to be nothing less than thieves with very shady business practices and that since I, as the original contract holder, did not authorize any contract renewal and since my daughter paid full price for her phone and since she did not knowingly do anything expect buy a phone, that I would go to hell before I pay those two cancellation fees. I am now being sued by a collection agency on behalf of Verizon.
