delta airlines online reservations

My Delta reservation is mistakenly in the name of my daughter, and my daughter's American Airlines reservation number is from Baltimore to Seattle. She leaves from Baltimore on 12/21 and back from Seattle on 12/26. My reservation (in her name) is from Gainesville GNV to SEA on 12/22 and back on 12/26. The error actually occured on Sept 13, which was the day of my brother's funeral. My daughter was worried about my ticket for Christmas so she was trying to help. I don't know if the site pre-filled her name or if she mistakenly put her own name in there. But it was charged to my visa and I received the email confirmation with my name at the top of my itinerary. I didn't see toward the bottom of the email that the passenger name (in small letters) is my dauthter's name. I wasn't checking my email anyway during that time and really forgot all about it until Delta called with a schedule change. If they hadn't called, I'd be at the airport on Dec 22, and they would have

turned me away and I would have missed Christmas with my family. But I'm having a hard time understanding why they can't go outside of policy for this situation, given the extenuating circumstances. It's not like it's against the law. My airport person said he'd change the name, but he needs to do it for my daughter in person (I can fly her here for $345, so it might be worth it, since replacing this ticket will cost at least $750 for a crummy flight schedule). She is going to drive to the DCA airport on Sunday, but it's a 2 1/2 hour round trip, plus the time and cost for parking, going inside, etc. She will do it if she has to, because it's a $650 ticket, but I just don't understand why it can't be handled nicely by the "new, improved Delta" over the phone. We have tried several different people at Delta, most of whom end up being in India and they don't care about the customer, because they don't have to, what with being so far away. And Delta gives them no power

to help the customer anyway. Is Delta really that cold, that they don't care that someone's brother died and now she's going to miss Christmas with her family?
