American Home Shield DUNEDIN, FL 34698 My husband and I have had an American Home shield home warranty in effect f= or over 5 years on our home. This year when we renewed, they sent us a newmarked up contract with changes. One of the changes was that if it is det= ermined that the appliance has not been maintained, it will not be covered. Our AC fan stopped working and AHS sent out a local AC company. This guywas disreputable and rude, he did not look at the air handler at all. He = looked at the outside compressor and said that it had not been maintained, = and the air handler needed cleaning. He said a new fan would not work, anda whole new system is $4000.00. He said AHS would not cover the fan. Sure enough, they denied the claim! This guy only wanted to replace a syst= em not do a small job. = When we complained, I was given the name of another company to come out andgive a second opinion. They never called me and when called them, they sa= id American Home Shield did not give my name to them. My husband called AHS and threatened to complain to the the FL State Attor= ney and open a file on them. They gave him the name of another company fora second opinion and told him there had been a computer glitch. Meanwhile, we had our own AC company come out and fix our air conditioner w= ith a new fan. They said our system was fine, it is outside and is 15 year= s old so there was some corrosion, but the fan is working fine. We called American Home Shield to report this, and they do not care., Thiscompany is a rip off. The technicians just want to do big jobs, not smallrepairs. The technicians can be bad, unreliable, disreputable and even cr= iminals, and as long as they tell American Home Shield it should not be cov= ered , AHS believes it. To get another opinion costs you another $55.00, a= nd what do you get, another bad technician!! Everyone should complain to their state Consumer Protection Agency, and the= ir State Attorney. This company needs to be investigated. They should be = made to prove how they choose and rate their technicians, and they should b= e made to list all cases of denied coverage and the reasons. There is a po= ssible class action here, they should be made to pay restitution. M.
