unfair usairways policy

I have a ticket purchased on November 15 for $209.30 one-way from US Airways, flight 2858 to fly out of my home city Flagstaff to Phoenix on December 2, change planes and take US Airways flight 9 on to Chicago. On November 25 my plans changed and I attempted to cancel the first limb of the itinerary and only fly directly from Phoenix. US airways insists on cancelling my entire itinerary to resell me a ticket ON THE SAME PLANE IN PHOENIX to go to Chicago, charge me a $100 change fee and sell me the same ticket for more money. They would still be free to resell a seat on the Flagstaff to Phoenix limb.

I do not feel that this practice should be condoned by the state. I wonder how many thousands of dollars have been extorted from vulnerable Arizona consumers in this way. Air travel is already expensive without this type of activity. It should be illegal for a carrier to force someone to give up a ticket, then immediately resell the same seat to them for more money plus a penalty. There should only be a penalty if I caused their company some harm is some way. They incurred no financial hardship by my change.

I would like my flight 2858 from Flagstaff to Phoenix at 5:50 p.m. on

December 2nd cancelled without any additional fees and charges and for

me to be allowed to use the second part of the ticket to fly to Chicago

on flight 9 at 7:47 p.m. My reservation # is E9VCFQ. My dividend miles

# is 40020958779.
