UNITED AIRLINES TREATMENT OF WIDOWS AND WIDOWERS

My dad worked for United Airlines for 37 years. He died in January. One of the benefits of all his hard work had been companion passes for his family. My mom and I decided to take a short trip for her birthday, but when she went on the United Airlines website she found she no longer had companion passes available, because my dad is now dead. This means that my 83 year old mother is unable to afford to buy tickets for her family (they stopped his pension also) to travel to see her, or for her to travel with us. She is unable to travel alone. The CEO, Glenn Tilton, made $39.7 million dollars in 2006, the company reported earnings of less than $25 and just came out of bankruptcy. The companion passes are NOT free, and are only available when there are seats on the plane that would otherwise be empty. So, not only a punishment to my family, but a STUPID move for a financially unstable company. I am really upset and totally disgusted with this policy.
