refund refusal at specbrands I am a volunteer 4-H sewing leader. In December, I purchased a serger from Specbrands.com for around $350 to use in one of my classes. The tension didn't work right at all, so I requested an exchange, which they did. The second machine had the exact same problem. I contacted Mauricio and got permission from him to have the machine looked at by a sewing machine repair place locally, just to find out how much it would cost to have it fixed. When I got my quote, and learned that it would cost at least $200 to fix the machine, I called Mauricio and told him I couldn't afford the repairs and the cost of the machine, so I wanted to return the machine. It seemed to be of poor quality, and I wanted something better. By now, a couple of months had gone by. Mauricio refused to send me a refund. I have made countless phone calls trying to work this out. Every time I call using my own name, the receptionist says he's not available, and takes my phone number. My calls are not returned. Strangely, when I call and use some other name, he is never busy. He finally agreed to send me a shipping label so I could return the serger. This was over a month ago. I continue to make calls every week. Now it is the end of May, five months since my original purchase, and I still have not received any satisfactory response. I am now making payments on a different serger of much better quality. Please be advised that this company takes sewing machines and sergers directly from the manufacturer, and does NOT offer any customer support at all, nor do they seem to check their machines before sending them out.
