I used Charter as my cable provider for years. When hurricane Katrina struck, of course I lost my cable. Understandably, it took weeks for cable all over town to be restored. However, after they announced that the cable service had been fixed, my television was still snow. I called repeatedly and waited very patiently for service to return. Most people by that time had gone to Directv. After about three months of nothing but snow, I received a bill. I went by the office and was told to throw it away. I still waited for service to be restored. After a few more weeks of calling about my lack of cable service, I received another bill. Again, I went to the office and was told the same thing. A few weeks later, I received a letter from a collection agency. By this time it had been six months with still no cable. I called the number on the letter and was told that if I didn't pay the $40 they would turn me in to a credit bureau. I told them that I haven't had a picture on my television since August, and they repeated that I was going to be turned in for not paying. I finally just gave in and paid them. I called Charter and told them to make sure that my account was canceled and went to Directv. I only wish I had made that decision about five months earlier. I recommend that no matter how many promises Charter makes to get you as a client, get a dish instead. I have never been let down by Directv nor have I been charged for service that I didn't have.
