Bank of America

Bank of America Here is my complaint about Bank of America. In the fall of 2005 I signed up for a checking and savings account with Bank of America because they had good savings account interest rates at that time. Eventually I decided that this account was a waste of my time and energy and decided to close the accounts. The account was closed over the phone. I received a confirmation letter and a cashier’s check in the mail for the remaining.
I thought the account was closed, at least according to the letter I received. Apparently, this is not the case. Bank of America continued to keep this account open, even after I requested it was closed. They also continued charging me a fee of $5.99 a month for not using the account. The account was finally closed in March, after I didn’t put any money in it.
I went to the bank to try and close the account. The woman at this branch stated initially that I did not have an account with the bank. After I showed her the notice, she informed me that I had to pay off the $23.80 to get the account closed. I stated that I had written confirmation from the bank stating that the account was closed over the phone. She did not want to hear what I was saying. I then told her that I would write a check for the amount if I could. She told me that her bank did not take checks from other financial institutions. I was appalled by this. I stated that that if this was correct, anyone who had a loan through bank of America would have to also have a checking account there. She did not answer my comment. I left feeling upset and disgruntled. I no longer want any dealings with the bank. When they send you a letter saying the account was closed and then do not do it, and then charge you for it, this is appalling.
No wonder there are so many complains on this website about this company.
