David's Bridal in Flint Michigan

David's Bridal in Flint Michigan

I wanted a simple wedding dress for an outdoor wedding. I stopped by David's Bridal after work one day. I was greeting quickly, and throughout the 25 minutes that I was in the store, everyone was quite pleasant. The woman asked if she could help me. I told her that I was looking for a tea-length dress in ivory. She asked if I had an appointment. Why, no, I didn't. I didn't know that I needed an appointment to look at dresses. It took about 15 minutes for her to get a salesperson to help me, but in the mean time, I got to look through the racks and I found a couple of dresses that I wanted to try on.

The salesperson, a very nice lady, preceeded to fill out a form. She asked the date of the wedding, my name, and address. I told her that I didn't want to appear rude, but why did they need my address. She explained that they 'register' all their brides. She again asked for my address. I said that I really didn't need to give my address to buy a dress. It was going to be a very small wedding, not a big deal. She said that they inform other vendors who can then contact me. No, I would not be giving my address. She did 'give up' on the address, and called for another salesperson to help me. It ended up being the first lady that I had talked to.

We went over to get the dresses that I wanted to try. Now I've been in the store for 20 minutes. When I got to the dressing room, the woman opened the door and there were dresses and undergarments in it that she preceeded to clean out. It was then that I noticed that there were no mirrors in the room.

I said, "There aren't any mirrors in there. How will I know if I like it?" She said that I would come out and look at the mirrors out in the middle of the store. There were lots of them, that was true. I said that I was not comfortable coming out and seeing what I look like without first being able to see if the dress was at all acceptable while in the dressing room. She said that she could put me in the corner dressing room. I asked if there was a mirror in there. No, but then I wouldn't have to come out into the middle of the store-I could just come out and use the mirrors in the corner. I told her that I had just come from work and didn't want to have to come out of the dressing room at all. She offered to make an appointment for me so I could get more comfortable. I said no.

I want to point out again that everyone was very pleasant, but David's Bridal has got to know that not everyone wants to come out and display themselves in a dress that could possibly look horrible! I happen to be pretty shy, and do not feel comfortable trying on clothes where strangers can see me in the clothes before I can see myself in them.
