Complaint about The Boxing Club

Complaint about The Boxing Club When I entered into my gym membership contract on August 28, 2006, I knew I would not be in San Diego for at least a year. I knew I was getting transferred in June 2007. I told this to the then-manager Justin Mitts at The Boxing Club. He told me it would be no problem to have my membership cancelled if I just provided proof with a copy of my orders. I brought that proof to The Boxing Club on May 16, 2007 and the manager told me I would have to pay the 50% cancellation fee plus an extra month's worth of dues since 30 days would not expire before my next monthly transaction. I contacted their corporate office and spoke with Molly Mandel, who offered me no help and simply stated that "that has always been our policy, sorry". I feel that their services and policies were misrepresented to me, and merely want my contract cancelled without penalty as was promised me. I serve our country and will be transferred due to a military assignment, where there will be no Boxing Club gyms anywhere near me. I have filed complaints with the BBB and consumer protection services. Thank you, Mary Tagg

It seems like they don't really care about anything but money. I'm a firefighter in California and am attending academies in other parts of the state. Due to my work/school schedule I would not have time to attend training sessions for approximately 6 months. Due to this not being a deployment or move I have no papers showing that I cannot attend. So they are continuing to charge me the $129 a month for my jiu-jitsu membership and any attempt to cancel my contract will have me paying my contract in full PLUS an early cancellation fee and all the fees waived at time of sign up. I have NEVER had a gym do this to me. Their lack of respect and any type of honesty in their business practices are sickening. Mary- Thank you for your service and I am sorry that you have to deal with this trash when you are stateside. In my opinion our fighting men and women are to be given the utmost respect and the lack of it shown to you by this organization is appalling. To anyone considering a contract with them, FORGET IT. I HIGHLY suggest you take your hard earned money elsewhere. I for one have informed all of my co-workers in the SDFD about my situation and they have agreed not to go there. Congratulations Boxing club! I hope you enjoy my $129 a month because I have ensured that the 1500+ firefighters in San Diego and their families will never train at your gym. The Boxing Club refused to return $1200 I prepaid for a Personal Training Contract; they forged my initials on both the Membership and the Personal Training contracts and mislead the Judge about the way Membership and Personal Training Contracts can be obtained.
