Goodman Manufactering web site no warranty on internet sales I believe this no warranty if purchased over the internet is a fraud by Goodman Manufacturing. Their web site URL is www.goodmanmfg.com They are based in Huston Texas. Someone please investigate this company. They are ripe for a Class Action suit. I just purchased a furnace this past Winter and as of yesterday an AC condensing unit to fit this system over the internet. Little did I notice the non warranty for purchasing over the internet since it was at the bottom of Goodman's home page. The company ACWhosalers.com in Miami says they will stand behind the 10 year company warranty. Goodman Manufacturing says they will not if purchased over the internet even though they now give a 10 year warranty on all parts. What a scam to protect "greedy contractors" and Goodman Manufacturing bowed to the small group compared to the ultimate business supplier to the Consumer. I have been in the AC and Refrigeration before I retired and before the internet sales revolution. Goodman Manufactoring will certainly loose when the consumer is informed of this " protectionism of the Contractor" I might add that I have an EPA license and all that this implies. They are the people that want to save money, want to do it themselves but want to blame the product as soon as something goes south. When in 90% of the cases misintallation of the equipment is the cause of a failure. As for the 400.00 heatexchanger If you consider a piece of metal that is being heated in excess of 180 degrees a non functioning part then you dont know the definition. Here is a little tidbit for you to expand you knowledge with. Heat Exchanger Failures A heat exchanger in the traditional furnace is made from rolled steel of two mirror image parts seamed together like a clam shell. Many furnaces fail by developing cracks in the sheet metal, cracks along welded seams, or holes due to rust or corrosion. Occasionally holes formed by rust can be seen with the eye or with the aid of a mirror, but only 20% of the total surface of the heat exchanger is visible to view even with a mirror. Holes or cracks often are visible only when thermal expansion causes the cracks to open. Visual inspection is not normally possible when the furnace is in operation. Many heat exchangers fail by becoming overheated. A heat exchanger is protected from overheating by a carefully adjusted upper limit device. The upper limit device causes the furnace to cycle to its off position when the temperature of the air in the plenum above the furnace exceed the limit set by the mechanic. A notable number of heat exchangers fail from abnormal rust accelerated by the presence of chlorinated compounds. A chlorinated compound is any compound to which a chlorine molecule is attached. Many household products are chlorinated, among them; solvent, paint thinners, detergents and bleach. When these compounds mix with humidity, hydrochloric acid is formed and is drawn into the furnace where the acid produces rust and salt deposits. The salt deposits re-combine with moisture from the air in garages, basements and crawl spaces to continue the corrosive process and rapidly ruin a heat exchanger. Plugged air filters accelerate heat exchanger failure. A furnace filter neglected for several heating seasons will block the flow of air through the heat exchanger. The internal temperature of the furnace may exceed the continuous operating design temperature without reaching the high limit. Broken welds and cracks may result. Goodman is one of the best units on the market with the best warranty on the market if you didnt want to pay for labor to fix broken parts on your equipment you should have purchased the extended warranty for your product. I learned a lot about this industry and how they made a piece of crap and some folks defended it, wanting me to and expecting me to buy an extended warranty or purchase a more expensive product. Those folks missed the point. Goodman made a piece of junk and the heat exchanger is a non moving, non electrical part that should not have gone bad, so when it did go bad, why should I have to pay to have it fixed? Sorry, you won't get any more of my money. I vote with my checkbook, and my vote says.. no thanks. As for me wining about this.. well, sorry charlie, I think you are wining to me. Have a good life, don't sweat the small stuff, and move on... I did. The big thing was saving money on the unit.. and since we have sold many Goodman Heat pumps.. and have helped alot of people.. if warranty and installation is handled properly.. warranty is valid. We have never been turned down on Goodman parts warranty. NEVER. When mfg. asks me who we sell to I tell them the homeowner. And yes we have evolved and offer the product online..
