Unicorn Financial Services Complaint

Unicorn Financial Services Complaint

I elected to have a medical procedure and took out a no-interest loan for $8000 from Unicorn Financial right before the holidays. Unicorn did not send me any documents saying when I owed the first payment. I had never heard of Unicorn and I expected to get a statement in the mail like with any credit company so that I could see how much I owed.

In January, I never received a statement. I was on vacation one week and when I came back to work I had several messages from telling me to call them back. They did not say what this was in reference to and I had never heard of Unicorn Financial, so I did not call them back (figured it was a telemarketer). The next week I got a notice in the mail saying I owed a $35 late fee and that my 0-interest policy had been revoked. All this after never getting a statement in the mail! I called and explained that I never received a statement and that I would pay the last month plus the next month plus the late fee all at once. The customer service rep was incredibly rude to me and suggested I was a deadbeat. She also rudely told me that if I had the courtesy to call people back then I wouldn't be in this situation. She would not reinstate the 0% interest option for me even though I explained the situation to her very calmly.

Because of the large amount of the loan, I ended up wasting over $150 because of interest and late fees. I had to close the account and open up another credit card with a good balance transfer option but I'm sure this hurt my credit rating plus balance xfer costs, late fees, and interest payments. I've always had great credit and am very money conscious so I can't believe how this happened and how poorly I was treated.
