Humana Access Debit Cards/Card Stolen after card should have been cancelled

Humana Access Debit Cards/Card Stolen after card should have been cancelled Humana Access Debit Cards 1-800-604-6228 I worked for a government agency and opted for the Humana Access Debit Card instead of taking out insurance since I was already covered under my husband’s policy. This was an alternative where my employer paid into an account which I could use to pay my co-pays and deductibles. They issued a Visa debit card which I could use for these purposes. I left my employment in 6/06 and my coverage was cancelled, or so I thought. Apparently, they did not cancel my debit card which I confirmed with the Visa Dispute Department. I destroyed the card I had in my possession, but someone had gotten my card number and in 10/06 (four months after my card should have been cancelled) someone tried to charge $700.00 at a Macy’s store, 4 hours from my home. This charge did not go through. Then they completed 2 charges for almost $300.00 at an American Eagle Outfitters. Now, there are two important factors here that I need to explain. First, the cards are supposed to only be used for medical billing, I could not even use them at a pharmacy (I tried) because Humana said that the charge could not go through since they could not determine if I was charging personal items as well by my prescription co-pays (how were charges for clothing authorized?). Second, Humana is supposed to notify you at 30, 60 and 90 day intervals to ask for you medical billing information to verify the charges, since you do not receive a statement. If you notify Visa within 120 days of fraudulent charges, they will take them off of your card. I was not notified by Humana of these charges after the 120 days had just completed. Now to recap….My coverage was cancelled in 6/06 (Humana did not cancel my debit card), I destroyed my card as I was supposed to, fraudulent charges were made to my old account, I was not notified by Humana of these fraudulent charges until it was too late to have it taken care of by Visa and now Humana says that if I don’t pay them almost $300.00 back they will turn my into the IRS. Does anyone understand this??????????? I do not recommend Humana for anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!
