KitchenAid Oven

Model: KERC607HWW8

SN: IMR5468753

We bought this oven in early 2004 from Sears (now K-Mart). We bought it because of KitchenAid quality and its features, mainly the Sabbath mode. We owned a similar model when we lived in Colorado, and loved it.

We bought it from Sears because of their nationwide service.

Now, after 3 years of heartache with this machine, we’ve had it. This machine craps out on us almost every time we use the self clean feature… certainly every time we self-clean before an important holiday.

* This time, it happened yesterday, Friday March 30, 2007, while we were preparing for Passover. We have children and grandchildren coming in from around the country. We need to feed them for the next week. No Oven.

* Last time was Thanksgiving 2006. We had invited 25 guests. The KitchenAid crapped out again when we ran the self clean cycle.

* This happened at least one other time, but I don’t recall when that was.

The Sears/Kmart “service” people take two to four weeks to fix the thing. They start out by sending someone who has never seen one of these things. He orders parts that get here days later, but the wrong parts. Then they send someone who knows the unit and he orders the right parts (including a new brain), but the wiring harness wasn’t included. The Thanksgiving 2006 crap-out took four weeks to repair.

By now, KitchenAid and Sears/Kmart have become jokes in our neighborhood. We found out that friends in Cleveland have a similar problem with a similar KitchenAid. Until now, we have only been communicating with the Sears/Kmart people. Now, we feel that since your reputation is at stake also, we should be contacting KitchenAid, too.

I’m not sure what good contacting you will do. In order to do the cooking for the holiday, I need an oven now. That means that we need to go out and get a backup oven tomorrow morning (Sunday). Cute, isn’t it? You buy a $2000 KitchenAid oven and you need to buy a $400 backup oven for when it doesn’t work.

Be well,

Mel
