Following is the complaint:

Dear Sir/Madam:

In First week of February 2007, I received a call from Mr. Chuck Phillips from the sales department to sell me a home appliance insurance policy. After discussing various plans and payment options, I decided to take a 3 year policy for $991.00 to be billed in half for 2 consecutive months. In addition I was told that I would receive 4 home depot gift cards worth $50 each, along with my policy.

Needless to say that NHP billed my credit card conveniently as promised, but never sent out any gift cards. I did receive a wrong policy in mail with wrong contract term, wrong price etc. I called Mr. Phillips back at 1-800-608-6045, to correct the issues and get the Gift cards to Home Depot. He said that he has taken care of everything, and I should receive the updated policy along with Gift cards within a week’s time.

I waited for a month, but never received anything. I called Mr. Phillips back, and he said he does not handle this anymore, and transferred me to a 3rd person. She said that she will mail everything out again. I waited a few more weeks again, and still nothing in the mail from NHP.

I wonder how come I received the first mail from NHP, but never received any other mails that I was told has been or will be mailed? I still receive all other mail? Suspecting this, I called the credit card company in March, after waiting around for 2 months, to open a dispute. I called NHP as well, and there I was told that my policy was cancelled! The CSR did not know who cancelled the policy or when it was cancelled. When I asked for details, I was put on hold again, and CSR never returned.

I can only think of following reasons why a company would behave in the fashion they behaved:

1. They just want people’s money without providing any service

2. They survive on false advertising

3. They don’t want to hold up to their end of the bargain, and give people run for their own money

I called NHP again on 3/29/2007, to talk to Chuck Phillips again. I spoke to him and was transferred to the enrolling department. From there I was again transferred to another person who apparently was suppose to help me.

He came on the line and started using foul language like Fuck you, mother fucker, piece of shit and Arab mother fucker ( I am not an Arab) to name a few. He said that I can complain with anybody and anywhere I want. I would really like to know who that person was and why I was treated this way!

I also purchased a home warranty from this company and never received my Home Depot gift card. I have called numerous times and have been transferred to the voice mail of somebody who never returns calls. I was also promised that the rebate information would be sent again but never did receive anything. I would not recommend this company to anyone and will not use them again in the future. Thank God I only purchased a one-year contract.

I also purchased 3 Home Warranties from National Home Protection in March 2007. It is not January, 2008 and I have made 3 different written attempts to collect my 150.00 (50.00 each property) in Home Depot Rebates. I get the runaround each time I call. The last 2 times, I was told that they were sending them right out. Additionally, I have had a total of 4 service calls from this company this past year- each with a 45.00 service call. They have denied service on each of the 4 calls for reasons such as "it was improperly installed in the beginning" or the HVAC had to been propertly serviced ( when it had been serviced 9 months prior and was due for annual service the month following). They actually accused me of having a malfunctioning unit when I purchaed the coverage. This company is NOT RECOMMENDED in my book. I am still trying to get my 150.00 in rebates by the end of my contract as this was a promotion that in my opinion constitues false and misleading advertising if not paid.

I just got off the phone with Mr. Phillips who of course sounded very nice. He lowered my price to $280 for the year. I want an appliance insurance but it seems they are all very questionable. Any good ones?

James Monroe in accounting department is threatening me to put a lien on my house if I did not pay $1550. I did not cancel my contract but he still wants to charge $750 for contract cancellation fee. I DID NOT initiate the chargeback on my credit card. My credit card company made a mistake and they have corrected it once James Monroe informed me about it. NHP has received the money but James Monroe still wants to cancel my contract without my approval. Here is the email from him:
