Trane Co. Geothermal Systems Heating/Cooling

Don't get run over by a Trane, below is a consumers(my) dilemma concerning a product produced by the Trane Co. and

their response to my complaint. I was expecting to recoup my investment in about three years on putting a Geothermal

System in my house, which is the average. Having over a $1,000.00 bill after three years, I'm back

to square one. Take my advice don't take the Trane.

I will publish your response on the INTERNET and let Consumers beware of

your neglect, as below, hopefully

they will be aware and not get run over by a Trane! Also I will personally

take this to my Neighbor and show him

he made they right decision not to put a Trane unit in is house! All Aboard

Dan,

I received your fax and have reviewed it. I also spoke with the wholesale

distributor who supports Bowers Plumbing & Electrical. It appears that the

latest repair included replacement of the tube, providing a fresh surface

for brazing. This should provide you with a leak free repair.

I have attached the installation/operation manual for your unit as

reference, if you do not have it already. Warranty information is included

on page 33. Our standard warranties do not extend to labor, nor to

accompanying costs such as refrigerant or costs associated with alternate

cooling/heating. However, the part and labor costs for your original failure

were handled by Trane and the distributor due to the extremes of that

situation.

Leaks can be caused by material or workmanship, but can also be caused by

operation and vibration. The cause of your recent leaks (July 06 and Jan

07) can not be determined, and Trane can not reimburse you for your

expenses. If you have not already discussed the situation with Bowers you

may want to do that. I'm sorry that I can not be of further help.

Thank You,

Scott Braaten

Dan,

Did Bowers Electric itemize their bills for labor vs. parts? I would like

to know for both the 2006 and 2007 repairs. I'm asking because the 5 year

warranty you have is for parts only. I believe the parts should have been

covered for both repairs although I would need to verify that.

Thank You,

Thanks for the response Scott, the replacement unit in the serial below

W01G95829. Also my electric bill For Feb 2007 was around $90.00 over the

average, which is about $180.00 a month in the Winter. This overage was due

to my unit running on Emergency heat. Also, I have received no billing from

Bowers Electric for the last repair to my unit as of this date, thanks Dan

Mr. Cullison,

Thank you for contacting Trane. Your message has been forwarded around and

found its way to me yesterday, so I apologize for the delay in response.

Can you please clarify which unit you are currently having a problem with,

unit W01G95829 or was this replaced with a different unit in 2003? I would

need the replacement serial number if that is the case.

Thank You,

Scott Braaten

Model Number GSUJ0421AA1L100C

Order Number Z2R597A-A

In late 1999 and early 2000 I had a Command-Aire Trane Geothermal unit

installed in the new house we were having built. Bowers Plumbing and

Electrical Services installed the unit and it had a five year warranty.

In late fall 2003 the unit we had installed would not work. Bower

Electrical indicated that it was something internal. Bowers Electrical

called Trane and they indicated to send the unit back, and Trane would send

a new one.

The above serial numbers, model numbers and order number apply. Being under

warranty I was satisfied with the results. Also Bowers Electrical indicated

I would get a new five year Warranty on the replacement, which I was also

glad to hear.

In July 2006 the unit mentioned above broke down with fluid leaking

underneath. I called Bowers Electrical (hich I have service every year and

sometimes twice) and Bowers Electrical indicated a small

2 and 1/2 copper connector on the high pressure side leaked and had to be

brazed. I had them fix it on 25 July 2006 and wrote them a check for

$384.25(check nr 3286) and they indicated the part was not covered under the

warranty.

On 29 Jan 2007 the unit stopped working again, and I had Bowers Electrical

come again. Bowers Electrical indicated the same part was leaking again on

the other side where they had brazed it on July 2006.

The copper tube part connector looks like it would cost no more the $5.00 at

the hardware store. I feel as a consumer this part was defective in its

manufacture from whom ever made it. It might not be a quality problem in

Trane's existing units at this time, but I feel I was the unfortunate

consumer to receive this part in the construction of my Trane unit.

I feel even though this part not under warranty and was defective during

construction of the unit and that I should be reimbursed for my for my

losses not due to my doing. Bowers Electrical was here on 29 Jan

2007 and indicated to use my emergency heat on the unit. Bowers was

going to check with Trance about fixing the unit, due to the location of the

leak. Bowers indicated where the leak is, a hole would have to be cut in

the unit to fix it. To date 4 Feb, Bowers has not called back yet.

Question: Would Trane consider reimbursing me for my out of pocket expenses

due to the defective part not under warranty.

So far I have $384.25 incurred from July 2006. The cost for Bowers

Electrical on 29 Jan 2007, which they are still investigating and the cost

of my electrical bill, which I'm using emergency heat, which runs my

electrical bill high. Your looking into this matter greatly appreciated.

Comment: I feel Bowers Electrical is a reliable company and promotes your

product based on my communication with them. I have been satisfied so far up

until this date.
