Sears Repair

On January 12, 2002 we bought a Maytag Neptune Frontloader Washer from Sears in Moreno Valley, CA. ($992.00 + tax) Our machine stopped dead on March 9, 2007.

Under the warranty, the motor was supposed to be replaced (minus the costs of labor) at thier costs. We called Sears Repair and told them that "we thought" the problem was the motor because there were no problems before and it just stopped with not warning. Sear's sent out a technician who gave us a written quote to repair the motor. The costs of the parts totaled $470. When asked why this wasn't included under the warrant, the tech told us that we had to buy a "kit" and that the kit included a "motor controller" which was not warrantied. Granted, the motor would not work without this controller. We felt this was dishonest and just paid the service fee of $60.00.

In the meantime, I called Maytag. I was told that the Sear's Representative should have told us that they (Sear's) was not an authorized warranty repair company. They should have transferred us over. To make matters worse, the authorized warranty company came out the next day and discovered there was a small piece of wire in the pump, took it out and the machine worked perfectly. There was absoulutely nothing wrong with the motor or motor controller.

We felt totally ripped off! This was totally dishonest on Sears part and the person from the authorized company tested the motor in about 5 minutes and discovered the problem was not the motor.

We are requesting from Sear's the total service costs of $60.00

This is being forwared along with receipts to The Bureau of Electron and Appliance Repair.
