Complaint - Florida Publisher Scammed Me... Hello: Back on October 10, 2006, I purchased a subscription to their magazine and to their travel club. I was told to look for my issue in 4-6 weeks.
I called them in December and was told that I just missed the Winter mailing (no, I am not kidding). A back issue would be sent out to me. I still haven't received anything.
On January 5th, I sent an email to every single email contact on their web site. That afternoon, I got a response from Stephanie Spradley-Sears, their "Director of Operations". She apologized and said she would be personally sending me 2 copies of the Winter 06 issue. She then asked me to let her know if I didn't receive my February/March issue by February 15th.
On Febraury 18th, I wrote back to her telling her that I had not received the two issues that she supposedly sent nor had I received my Feb/March 2007 issue.
On February 27th, Stephanie Spradley-Sears wrote me back and said she was going to be issuing a refund that afternoon.
I wrote back immediately on February 27th and asked if she was going to issue the refund to my credit card - which I had used for the initial purchase - or if she would mail a check.
I sent an email on Monday, the 12th, letting them know that it is really a disgrace that a Black-owned publication will not honor its word to another person of color.
It is now March 16th and I have not heard from anyone at Odyssey Media. Earlier today I called their office's main number and got a recording that the voice mail is full. The problem with this is that everyone in the company shares the same phone number and if the main extension is filled with messages, you can't get to the prompt to enter anyone's extension. What kind of system are they running??
I called again a few moments ago and it appears that they have cleared out their voice mail. I left another voice mail for Stephanie Spradley-Sears, one for Linda Spradley-Dunn their Publisher and Nick Chiles their Editor-in-Chief.
I looked them up on the Better Business Bureau web site and they have an unsatisfactory record.
My advice would be to steer clear of this company. They clearly do not respect their customers or relationship with their African-American clientele as much as they say they do. How sad. -- __________________________________________________ Lena West, Founder & CEO | xynoMedia Technology 914.377.0600 | Email User http://www.xynoMedia.com xynoMedia Technology helps mid-sized, growing companies harness the power of technology.
