WearEver Strainable Pots and Pan Set

WearEver Strainable Pots and Pan Set

WearEver is a retailer of pots, pans and bakeware.

I received a set of the WearEver Strainable Pots & Pan for Christmas in 2006. I started to use the set in mid January 2007. Shortly after I began to use the set, while attempting to wash a pan, I was cut on my right hand by the rim of the pan. At first I didn't think anything of it, just a freak accident but I was cut again a week or so later. I looked more closely at the pan and ran my finger around the rim and when compared to some of my other older pans, I noticed the WearEver rims were sharper or thinner than the older pan which had a blunt rim.

Although I was trying to be careful, on February 4, 2007, I reached in the sink to get the sponge and was cut by the pan across my right pinkie knuckle, only this time it was much deeper. This time I took a picture of the wound to send a picture with an email. I searched the internet for the WearEver contact information and sent the company an email regarding the incident.

The next day I received an email from WearEver requesting I call them because they were concerned. I promptly resoponded and explained the dangers of the pans. I was especially worried about children and the elderly because of their delicate skin.

The customer service person I spoke to sounded genuinely caring and instructed I send the pans (at my expense) to them directly for inspection, and I did the same day. I sent the pans with a delivery confirmation and they received the pans on February 9, 2007.

I waited over a week after they were delivered and didn't receive any calls or emails regarding the incident so I called them. Each time I was told that the pans were in the process of being examined and that any day I would receive a call.

I waited and waited, usually a week before I would call. I called for a total of seven times between February 9th, and 25th. When I called back on March 1, 2007, I was told that the pans were sent to New Jersey because the original customer service agent gave me the wrong instructions on where to mail them.

On March 1st I requested to speak to a supervisor or upper management. I was told that I couldn't speak to one that day but that he would give the message to his supervisor to call me the following morning. I received a call two days later and the supervisor asked me "why are you calling me?" This took me by surprise. I explained once again why I was frustrated. I had been told on several occasions that the pans were in the process of being inspected and now the customer rep. told me that they were sent to New Jersey to be inspected. I asked why I had been lied to so many times, I also told him if WearEver would just give me an update either by email, phone or even mail that would be sufficient but they refuse.

I called today and requested the phone number for the New Jersey office to check on the progress and I was told I couldn't have the number.

These pans are dangerous and should be removed from the market. Even though my cuts were minor with the exception of the last one, someone could be seriously injured!

I also sent a letter to their complaints department and to date I have not received any response.

Thank you,
