2004 Chevrolet Impala problems...

I have a complaint about a 2004 Chevrolet Impala Sedan. I bought this vehicle new at my local Chevrolet dealer 2 1/2 years ago. It had a warrenty of 36,000 miles and at 40,000 miles, right after the warrenty ran out, the speedometer quit working properly. When I am driving, it does not read the correct speeds. I let this go, figuring that my warrenty ran out and perhaps that this was the only problem. However, recently, at 50,000 miles, my dim switch went out. My bright headlights work, but my dim lights do not. At this point, I took my car to the dealer and they gave me an estimate of nearly one thousand dollars to fix both the speedometer and the dim switch. Since the dealer offered no assistence whatsoever, I decided to contact GM. I explained to GM that these problems were not my fault but a quality issue on their part. They explained to me that there was nothing they could do for me. They offered no assistence whatsoever! At this point, I told them that I, as well as my family members, would no longer buy any GM products of any sort. Still, nothing doing! So I am in a prediciment now with this speedometer and dim switch. The car is barely drivable now because of these problems. Now I have to come up with who knows how much money for repairs! I am a very dissatisifed customer. My family and I have been very loyal Chevy customers all our lives but are no longer. I doubt I will ever purchase another GM product.

As well as the others I have had the same problem for about 6 months. My problem started around 90,000 miles. The speedometer does not alwyas work. So far i have found that if I stop the car and turn it off and then sit a minute then turn the key (but not on) and the off again it will reset (for now). Now I have water leaking in on the fromt passenger side. Coming from under the windshield....

This problem is not a new one. From searching online I have found 396000+ hits on this issue. GM will not do a recall with the state of everything right now so we are left shelling out money for a faulty product because thats all we can do. And quite frankly I doubt they ever will. Mine was stuck at 65mph and I found a reset online (turn to auto but not on and press trip until it reset) that worked fine for 3 months and now I am set at 0 and am finding nothing on that anywhere except a trip to the shop and money out of my pocket. I am for sure saving this reciept and when and if the goverment demands a recall and repair I will get my money back. Chevy has made a decision to ignore a major saftey issue and someday it will catch up to them.
