Unicorn Financial

Unicorn Financial I contracted Unicorn Financial to loan me some money for dental work I needed to have done on an 18 month loan term. I have been paying faithfully for 16 months, however I had an unexpected expense last month and had to push the payment back one week. I was charged a $39 late fee. Okay, no problem, I was late after all. A woman named Claudia at x2480 from the company called me to take the payment over the phone and she was very courteous and apparently genuinely concerned that not paying the late fee on time was going to make $1,500 in retro interest kick in. I appreciated that, and yesterday was singing the praises of that company. Today, however, is another story. I am I extremely upset today, as I saw on my bank ledger that the amount charged was actually $63. I called back and asked the person who answered the phone why more was charged than I was told, and the lady said I was assessed a $24 "phone fee". The woman told me that their system was noted that I was told about this. Now I can guarantee that Claudia failed to mention this charge to me, as I made sure to check my balance beforehand and I had more than enough available to pay the $39 fee yesterday. I watch my bank account very closely and I keep things very tight with my finances. Had I known there was an additional fee, I would have made sure to deposit enough to cover the charge beforehand. However, today, because of this unknown fee, my bank account is overdrawn by TWENTY-FIVE FREAKIN' CENTS. While you might laugh at the triviality of this, this 25 cent overdraft will now cost me approximately $40 in bank fees, and may cause an additional cascade of charges tomorrow due to a couple of other small debits I'm expecting to show up which could run up to over $100 in charges. Though I am tempted to call my bank and tell them it's an unauthorized charge and to reverse it, if I do so, Unicorn will then likely screw me with the full interest charge, saying I didn't make the payment on time and I was in default, and contractually they would be right and there would be nothing I can do. Of course, I'm stuck now because of this, and I can do nothing but lodge a complaint here in hopes that others will read this before deciding to do business with Unicorn Financial, or if they do so, be very careful with them because they may bait and switch you too if you are ever late on your payment. I will also inform my dentist, who I have a long-term relationship with, that I am very unhappy with his choice of partnership by recommending them. I'm sure none of this will make any difference in the grand scheme, but perhaps someone will read this and become more aware. They are now Chase Health Advance and the same bunch of crooks are running it. With the new ownership they mixed up my billing statements and now I have to pay over $800 because my last payment was a couple days late because they did not send a statement. Stay away from this company! From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Wednesday, 07-May-08 15:54:51 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This |
