Hollywood Video Hollywood Video, Mason Road, Katy, Texas
A few months ago, I rented 6 videos. We returned them. Next visit we were told we still had not returned one. It was a compilation of a BBC series called "Eleventh Hour" starring Patrick Stewart. I assured the manager that I had in fact returned the video.
We were not forced to pay the late fee at that time and rented more videos.
A few days later I found the mis-placed video under our couch. I forth with returned it.
A few days later I received a letter from a collection agency (File Number 07018499974) in the matter of $49.99.
It looks like it is probably the cost of the video.
I have been a patron of that particular store for over 10 years and have spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars renting videos and games over the years.
No longer.
I sent the following letter to the corporate office:
Hollywood Video 8915 S. Sony Island, Chicago, IL
June 9, 2007
Dear Sir or Madam:
I have been a long time customer of Hollywood Video and have valued your service. Apparently I value your service more than you value my continued patronage as a customer.
Not too long ago I rented 5-6 videos, and returned them. I neglected to return one, that unbeknownst to me had been pushed under our couch. I told the store manager in good faith that I had returned it. He waived the late charges or so I thought. Upon finding the misplaced video, I returned it.
Imagine my surprise when I find a matter of $49.99 had been turned over to a collection agency (File Number 07018499974). I do not know whether the entire amount is for the late charges or whether I am being assessed the price of the video. In any event, I would have been ahead had I kept the video which I returned and simply paid the fee.
Needless to say, I will no longer be a patron of Hollywood Video at any location. I will go further and tell my friends not to patronize your company either.
Over the last 10 plus years I have been a patron of your Katy, Texas, Mason Road store, eschewing using either of two neighboring Blockbuster stores that were actually more convenient. I have spent hundreds of dollars there in video and game rentals over the years. No longer. Your actions are penny wise and pound foolish. I don't know if it is over zealous store managers or just stupid corporate policy. In either event, it is killing the goose laying the golden egg, that is it and all about it.

This is completely your fault. Hollywood Video didn't stuff the Video under your couch. When you rent, you are responsible for the Videos and/or Games that you rented. I have had nothing but great experiences with this Store. With that said, I ask others who read this not to be decieved by a rather ignorant Customer who is shifting all the blame, that should go to him, to the Store. Aside from being ignorant, you also seem to be arrogant, with your golden egg analogy. You seem to think you are so special. One Customer leaving and telling other People not to go there typically doesn't decrease business at all, so I find it funny when People say they are going to tell everyone they know not to go to said place.
