Clothing at Burlington Coat Factory

At Burlington Coat Factory in Massapequa, New York, I returned five items that I had purchased two months earlier. The return policy states that an exchange, store credit, or refund will be granted within 30 days of purchase. I knew I would not get my money back, and a store credit was fine with me. However, because it was past the 30 day return policy, I took a monetary loss on three items--despite having the receipt--because they insisted that after 30 days I would only receive the current selling price. I carefully looked over the posted policy (as well as double checking on their website) and nowhere does it state that after 30 days, with the receipt, only the current selling price would be given. The manager insisted that many stores, such as Marchall's, do that. In fact, I've never heard of such a thing! To give me the current selling price (and I have to go by their word, nonetheless) when they have a recent receipt right in their hands stating what I paid is unconscionable!

On top of the obvious insult to me, they wouldn't even take back one pair of jeans because despite all the attached tags, there was no Burlington tag. She admitted that they sell it, but there was nothing she could do without a tag (and that was the one item that didn't have an accompanying receipt). I explained that when I purchased it, the sales clerk had to look the price up because there was no tag and said that she would write up a tag to staple to the jeans in case I wanted to return them. It wasn't until I got home that I realized she forgot to do that. "No problem," I thought, "they sell the pants anyway. I'm sure they'll take them back if they don't fit my daughter."

I feel very ripped off by this store. I can't believe it's even legal for them to do this. Because a busy, working mother can't run to the store with returns right away, I have to take a loss only a few weeks past their deadline. And these consequences are not in writing!
